Whether it’s after a night on the town nursing a huge hangover or just having a lazy day and can’t be bothered to concoct a breakfast yourself. A trip to my favourite local cafe – Lesley’s Corner Cafe on the Pershore Road – is always on the cards. Lesley’s is the kind of cafe which is very ‘British’. They shy away from serving up what can be described as ‘posh nosh’ and instead focuses on providing its customers with good quality food. There is a real community feel at the cafe and the staff make anyone and everyone feel very much at home.

Although the cafe is normally very busy, especially on a sunday, we came early as Emily had to head off to the MAC for her pre show for ‘The Pirates of Canon Hill Park.’ Our orders arrived quickly with a minimal wait – all good so far. I generally go for the standard breakfast which for £3.95 includes two sausages, two bacon, egg, tomatoes, beans, fried bread, bread and butter to mop up and a cup of tea! First, I swapped a sausage for a piece of bacon (Emily isn’t a huge fan of Bacon.) Secondly I tucked in, the bacon was crispy the sausages were cooked, beans and tomatoes were hot and the eggs yolk broke as I cut into it, perfection. I polished off my breakfast which, was perfectly yummy. I usually don’t finish the breakfast, but today I ate it all, it was just the right amount, so much so it meant no need for lunch. (Money saving right there?!)

Overall, the food was very good and with a reasonable price tag, it’s clear to see why it’s so popular with local students and workers. I’ve often wondered what their other dishes are like, however after 3 years of regular visits to the cafe I haven’t been tempted to adventure to another dish, even when arriving at lunch, the breakfast really is that good!

If your local, or in the Selly Oak area, pop-in to Lesley’s you won’t regret it!
