After you have over indulged over the Christmas period, getting fit in January becomes a priority for many of us! With a high percentage of new year’s resolutions involving getting fit, avoid paying out hundreds on a gym membership and take a look at our top tips for getting fit on a budget;

Fitness DVD’s
Fitness DVDs are a great way to exercise at home and lose weight. Simply press play, clear some space and follow the steps on the DVD to build up your heart rate. You can find a range of fitness dvds online from around £5 but we’re sure if you ask your family – someone will have a spare one lying around.

Skipping Rope
A preferred workout for professional boxers, skipping is a cost effective workout you can do anywhere! Great for building your fitness levels, coordination and also weight loss – who would of thought a small piece of rope could save you hundreds in gym memberships!

Jogging
It may be cold outside, but jogging is a great way to lose weight and get fit in 2014 (and it is FREE!) Get your running shoes on and plan your route – it’s time to burn off them mince pies.

Swimming
Swimming is a great cardiovascular activity that works all your muscles! 30 mins of swimming can burn up to 300 calories and is also a great way to relieve stress. Many areas in the UK have local swimming pools run by the council which as relatively cheap to attend. Look out for any offers in January at your local swimming pool for discounts and membership deals. Swimming equipment is also relativity lower priced that for other sports; all you need is your swimsuit and swimming googles to hit the water!

Boot Camp
Many local parks now offer boot camps during the warmer months which are free to attend. These are a great way to get outdoors, meet new friends in your area and get fit! Look online for your nearest boot camp.

January Membership Deals
Many gyms and fitness centres offer January deals and promotions to lure in new members in the New Year. Despite gyms genuinely being quiet expensive, if you find the right promotion there is a great possibility to make a huge saving – so shop around and look out for the best deal for you.
