The Google City Expert programme brings together the most active users on Google+ Local and Google Maps who write reviews and upload photos of local places. As a City Expert, you’ll receive special online recognition and access to fun, exclusive events in your local area.

One such event took place on on 22 May, when the BT Tower, which has been closed to the public since 1980, opened its doors for an exclusive event for London’s top City Experts. The Experts were given the chance to travel to the 34th floor of the Tower for an exclusive photography lesson with critically acclaimed London-based commercial photographer and art director Andy Fallon, who taught them how to make the most of the panoramic views across the capital.

The event also included a talk from Leo Hollis, author of Decoding the City, on how London has ‘grown up’ thanks to the building of skyscrapers, as well as a brief history of the BT Tower from expert David Hay. The Tower, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary, had been named by London’s City Experts as the number one exclusive location in the capital that they would most like to visit.

Pete Oliver, Commercial Director of BT’s Consumer Division, commented: ‘We are very proud to be opening our doors to the City Experts and sharing the wonderful vista from the BT Tower with such an enthusiastic group. The Tower has been an iconic part of the London skyline for 50 years, so it is a must-see landmark for any passionate Londoner.’
