LessThan10Pounds

When LessThan10Pounds got in touch to see if we’d like to review some items from their clothing range, it sounded like just the job for one of our student bloggers.

Inspired by the various thrift stores and cheap clothes stores in London, LessThan10Pounds aims to provide women’s clothes, footwear, accessories and handbags of the best possible quality at very low prices – yes, you’ve guessed it, everything on the site is under £10. With over 25 years’ experience in the fashion industry, the company has the knowledge and network to source high-quality, affordable fashion items from some of the best bulk wholesalers, importers and manufacturers from around the world.

So here’s Sheffield Uni student Emily’s review of the pleated cap sleeve dress in burnt orange, the swing dress and the ankle boots with metal heel detail we were sent…

I rarely buy anything online as I am quite particular about the fit of my clothes. However these clothes really surprised me (in a good way!).

Ankle boots (£6.99)

Boots with metal heel detail

As soon as I got the parcel I opened the ankle boots with metal heel detail and put them straight on… and I have hardly taken them off since!

Firstly, I was expecting that I would go through the usual ‘new shoe ordeal’ where you have to wear them in, going through packets of plasters before you even get to enjoy how they look. But no, they are the comfiest new boots I’ve had in a long time!

They look great with both jeans and dresses, and you can dress them up or down. The boots have an inside ankle zip for easy access, and have a round toe, a gold-coloured, 4cm metal heel and the sole has grips. They’re made from synthetic leather (which is what you’d expect for a pair of shoes for less than a tenner!). I was sent the boots in black, but they’re also available in grey and brown.

These boots are definitely my favourite item of the three I received.

Next, the swing dress in black, which is a great dress for day or night.

It’s pretty much a blank canvas, which you can accessorise (or not) to suit whatever occasion you’re going to. It looks great as a loose dress, but it also rocks with a high waist belt, which is my preferred option as I can sometimes look a little drowned in dresses without a fitted waist. You could also team it up with ankle boots and a blazer.

The dress is available in a bright blue and pink as well as black, and the material’s 95% viscose and 5% elastane.

Red dressPleated cap sleeve dress (£4.99)

Finally, the pleated cap sleeve dress in red. It’s a perfect dress for something a little more fancy or formal, with it not being too short, yet still fun and flattering.

I only had one problem with this dress and that was getting the zip up at the back on my own – the high neckline at the back meant I had to ask my flatmate to do the honours. But let’s face it, that’s a problem that many a dress poses! However, once the dress was on it hugged in all of the right places and was very flattering, and this is another one you can dress up or down, with belts and other accessories.

This dress would work well with leather ankle boots, cropped jacket and neutral jewellery. It has a pleated skirt design, cap sleeves, v-neckline and the aforementioned zip at the back. It’s one of the ex-branded products on the site, which may have the labels cut off before it’s sent out.

The material of the dress, which costs less than a fiver, is 73% polyester, 24% viscose and 3% elastane.

Overall, I would definitely recommend trying out LessThan10Pounds to anyone looking for an affordable online fashion store, as these products didn’t let me down at all!
