Here’s some fun facts about the new Camden store:
· The site used to be a bakery until the business decided to move in 1909 – then the building was remodelled to begin its life as a theatre – first the Electric Theatre and then Theatre De Luxein (ooh la la) in 1914. It had capacity of 600 and served Londoners until 1938.
· Circa Second World War, the building was acquired by Odeon (competition from other cinemas was fierce) and renamed the Camden Plaza which it remained for the rest of its cinematic days.
· When it closed in 1994, the building was reworked and used to host one of Camden’s many markets.
· As is the trademark of Urban Outfitters – we love old skool – so we’re leaving tell-tale signs such as vintage wallpaper, mosaic entrance and comic book shrine so that shoppers and staff can continue to enjoy!
