Sometime soon you’ll want a job…

There’s no doubt it’s tough getting on the employment ladder – but it’s certainly not impossible!

There are a lot of reasons why you will or will not get a particular job.

Luck plays a part but there is a lot you can do to give yourself the best chance of success.

Qualifications look good on paper and will possibly help get you through the door for an interview – assuming the rest of your CV also looks impressive, attention grabbing and is relevant to the job you’re applying for.

But there is a far bigger picture to consider when it comes down to a recruiter evaluating you as a person – and whether or not you are a suitable candidate for their company or organisation.

First, you must prepare yourself and be ready for any number of different situations and different people that you’ll come across.

The good news is that the better prepared you are the more confident you’ll be in talking or writing about yourself, your character, your strengths and weaknesses, your aims and ambitions.

You must also know as much as possible about the companies that will receive your job applications. Again, your confidence will be high if you feel able to ask relevant questions and talk intelligently about the business of the company concerned.

If you’re at college or university you should start thinking about the future right now. Start early and you will have a great opportunity to develop, change and polish both your CV and the “story” about you.

Don’t get sucked into believing all the bad news but also don’t wait for luck to come your way.

Make your own luck – YOU CAN DO IT!
