Lookfantastic Best of British beauty box review

Lookfantastic Best of British beauty box

Wow, the months sure do fly by – the knock on the door this morning was from the postman delivering the lastest Lookfantastic beauty box – the #LFBESTOFBRITISH edition for August. Can’t believe it’s been a month since the last one and that’s the fun of these boxes for me… if you’ve signed up to receive them monthly it’s easy to forget about them and then get a nice little surprise when you least expect it.

The name of this month’s edition gives a clue as to what lies inside. To support our athletes in the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympics, Lookfantastic have filled the beauty box with their favourite British brands, which include some super-looking face and hair products.

If you’re new to the Lookfantastic beauty boxes here’s how they work – you can either buy a one-off box or sign up to one of the three-, six-, or 12-month subscriptions and you will receive a box full of surprise beauty goodies through the post. The boxes make a lovely treat for yourself or the perfect birthday present for someone special. They’re always beautifully designed and the beauty products come wrapped up in tissue paper which you have to tear open to get inside, so it really does feel like opening up a present every month!

In the August box there are six beauty products as well as the Lookfantastic magazine and the latest copy of ELLE magazine which is quite typical of what you normally receive. Products vary each month and you can receive all manner of items, such as styling products for your hair, face creams, eye creams, lip balms, hair brushes, make-up brushes etc. A lot of the time the products are travel/sample size but you do occasionally get a full size product. The surprise nature of the boxes means you will probably receive beauty products that you’ve never tried before and also allows you to try a product out without forking out for a full-sized version which might be pricey. But, of course, the flip side is you may end up with some products that you’re not interested in. You can get the boxes from as little as £11.25* per month (for the 12-month subscription).

So what does the Best of British box have in store for you? If you can’t wait to find out what’s inside this month’s box then read on for a spolier…

Opening the Lookfantastic Best of British beauty box

Bloom and Blossom Rejuvenating Facial Spritz

Containing ingredients such as aloe vera and lime oil, this facial spritz gives off a very fine mist with each spray that feels cooling and doesn’t leave the face wet. It’s perfect for keeping in your handbag during those hot, humid days to give your skin a refreshing boost. On top of this it’s said to help improve skin tone and reduce dark shadows.

Percy & Reed Wonderbalm

If you’re a fan of the Percy & Reed super-cool hair salons in London then you’ll love this Wonderbalm by them. Rather than a styling product itself, it’s actually a primer that you work into towel-dried hair before using your regular styling products to help give you better results. Smells pretty good too.

Balance Me Congested Skin Serum

Designed to soothe and reduce spots and blocked pores – this cream contains lavender, eucalyptus and lemon and is suitable for all skin types. It has a fantastic citrus scent to it and although I haven’t had a chance to test its capabilities, it feels like a nice product to use – sinking in to the skin quickly and leaving it non-greasy. Keep this handy little product nearby for those mornings when trouble’s brewing!

Bee Good Vanilla and Honey Lip Balm

A nice creamy lip balm to help soothe chapped lips containing – you guessed it – honey and vanilla fragrance! The balm also contains beeswax from British bees. It smells beautiful and its thick texture makes it easy to apply from the tube.

Renu Lip and Eye Active Lift

It’s not often I’ve seen a cream that is for both the eye and lip area but when you think that the skin in these areas is thinner and more delicate than the skin elsewhere, it makes sense. This cream is said to help banish dark circles and firm the skin. However, this product says it’s for mature skin so would probably not be of interest to university students in their late teens and twenties! Still, you could always give it to mum as a thank you for washing that massive bag of washing you brought home with you.

REN Flash Defence Anti-Pollution Mist

Formulated to protect your skin from pollutants to help prevent breakouts. If you live in a big city you may want to give this product a go.

Not forgetting the reading material…

The August beauty box comes with a copy of the September 2016 ELLE magazine – a fave of fashionistas up and down the country. On top of this, Lookfantastic’s own magazine tells you all about your beauty products and this month gives tips on getting a perfect complexion.
