Alternative beauty retailers

For some, joining uni can often mean losing out to the finer things in life and by that I don’t mean your mums home cooked meals or even your own double bed with clean sheets. No, I mean your beauty products.

Lidl

However, what if you could find your typically used products and some great alternatives in more purse friendly places? Sounds good right, then let me introduce you to Poundland, Lidl and Primark. I’m presuming each and every one of you have found yourself in each of the above on numerous occasions, but have you ever really visited the beauty section or even realised there is one?

Poundland is surprisingly one of the best high street shops for beauty products. This unpredictable gem has been known to stock Barry M, OPI nail polishes, Sally Hanson and even Rimmel, Bourjois and Max Factor. So basically you can have a bronzed body, fab nails and glittering eye shadow collectively for under £10!

Lidl quickly becomes your supermarket of choice when you enter university life. Well-known brands are usually replaced by a, usually foreign, home brand but equally tasty alternative. However, Lidl also stocks a cosmetic range named ‘Cien, which has products such as moisturiser, shampoo, conditioner and even facial toners and cleansers. I can honestly recommend the Cien brand for those with even the most sensitive skin types and not only is this brand gentle on the skin, it is equally as gentle on the pocket! The majority of Cien products retail for less than £2! Meaning our skin and hair can be silky smooth for less than the price of a packet of tomatoes.

And finally good ol’ Primark, or Primarni if you’re feeling extremely posh. Our Jack Wills hoodies are often replaced mid semester for a more budget friendly Primark alternative, but did you know Primarni may just be able to replace your MAC brushes or even your Eylure false lashes? Primark now have a range of cosmetic products from brushes, to false eyelashes, to makeup wipes to cotton pads, they’ve got it all. The majority of these retailing for £1.50 or under, which let’s face it is a welcome price when your left putting your eye shadow on with your hands because your favourite MAC 224 brush was in that handbag that never returned home from that night out.

So there you have it, there’s no excuse to let your beauty regime slide just because you’re a student. Now we just need to find the time for all this pampering!
